Why do I need to re-charge my Air Conditioning?

You may not be aware that over 10% of air-con gas permeates from the air-con system every year, which means that it may not work as well as it should. This is why car manufacturers recommend your Air-Con system is recharged with gas and lubricant every 2 years. This service is not part of routine vehicle servicing, so if your vehicle is more than 2 years old it’s probably due a recharge.

How much will you charge me?

Here at Penhale Garage our fully trained technicians will conduct a free air-conditioning temperature check to ensure the system is working correctly.  If everything’s okay, there’s nothing to pay. If your system needs recharging, we can carry out the work while you wait. It won’t take a long time and once it’s done, your system will be running nicely for another year. We charge £45 plus vat for the service.

How do you re-charge my Air Conditioning?

Our fully trained technicians will take a temperature reading from your air conditioning system; remove all the old refrigerant gas, oil and dye. They then clean the whole system and remove any moisture within. Once the system has been thoroughly cleansed our technicians will inject new oil, dye and refrigerant gas and take a temperature reading again to ensure that the Re-Gas has made a difference to the cold air temperature.

What are the benefits?

Our Re-Gas service ensures that your air conditioning system is working efficiently by testing the gas pressure to see if it has dropped. A drop in gas pressure will result in a loss of cooling efficiency which will make your engine work harder and in turn use more fuel. Due to it's dehumidifying properties, when operating fully efficiently, your air conditioning system will also clear your windscreen more rapidly in cold weather.
